Emrick-Schmitz
Elena graduated in International Finance (BSc) from Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences in Germany with a semester abroad in Global Economics at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea. During this time, she developed a passionate interest in sustainability which led her to complete her further studies in Sustainable Development (MSc) at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, UK.
Before joining the University of Luxembourg, she worked in the financial sector in Germany & Luxembourg, most recently as a consultant at a Big Four specialized in developing business and products around ESG & Sustainable Finance for financial institutions. Furthermore, she is an associate of the Institute for Social Banking in Germany.
Elena is a PhD student at the university and joined in August 2020 as part of the AltFin project in cooperation with the LISER. Her research focuses on community economies and their contribution to regional sustainability transitions.
