Matthias joined the Institute for Research on Socio-Economic Inequalities in October 2020. He is contributing to the ERC-funded project Cognitive Ageing: From Educational Opportunities to Individual Risk Profiles.

Within his PhD, Matthias applies statistical learning methods to investigate modifiable social and behavioral risk factors of cognitive decline. The project aims at deriving individual risk profiles for cognitive decline from a life course perspective and is supervised by Professor Anja Leist.

Matthias obtained his Master’s degree in Psychology from Heidelberg University in September 2020. His thesis A picture is worth 1000 words: Capturing promotion and prevention focus through linguistic word count dealt with the validation of an NLP-tool extracting psychological features from written text.”
