A space that encourages creativity and (trans)languaging

Kiara and Gina tell a story about a spaceship, a task set by the teacher. While Gina speaks fluent German, Kiara hesitates. Gina supports her, corrects her and asks her if she still wishes to continue when she notices Kiara’s unease with the task. She changes the atmosphere by setting a new task: Kiara is to make a movie about Mila, the caterpillar hand puppet used in the German classes. Mila “only speaks German”. Kiara takes up the challenge. She uses the hand puppet and speaks German with some excitement and pleasure while Gina is recording her. iTEO is a space where children can work autonomously, be creative and develop their new language skills while remaining attentive to each others’ interests and needs.
